seed catchers serve as second feeder

seed catchers and trays give other birds a new spot to feedHopper and tube style bird feeders will not accommodate many birds. Cardinals, Jays, Juncos and larger Woodpeckers have a tough time on the small ledges or tiny perches, so platform feeders are better suited for these birds.

Most of the new seed catchers actually serve as platform feeders, offering a an additional area for other birds to feed. Not only will seed catchers and trays keep ground mess to a very minimum, they virtually eliminate wasted seed as well. This makes your seed go further… while spending less money on it!

This recycled plastic seed catcher is made for a 4×4 post. With removable screens for easy cleaning, the large 23 x 21-inch feeding area will entice new bird species to your feeder. The same tray is available in durable cedar, and also made for a standard 1-inch feeder pole. Hanging seed catchers and tray are also available, and most are adjustable to work with different bird feeders.

With so many variations in seed catchers, there’s plenty to choose from that will work with your existing feeder. Entice more birds to feeders by adding a platform-type seed catcher!

    This Season for Seed Catchers!

recycled seed catcher for 4x4 postI just don’t get it sometimes, because every year I promise myself to install seed catchers underneath my feeders, and every year I just clean up the mess below instead! For someone who does the backyard birding thing to the degree of overkill, you’d think these seed catchers would already be in place? Right now there are three heated birdbaths, ten in all! Feeding sunflower, thistle, suet, finch mix, live mealworms, peanuts, and oh…let’s not forget the squirrels! In summer we have two water wigglers, 2 misters and two birdbath drippers going too. By the way, the birds and butterflies really love the leaf misters!

Beside the unsightly mess below feeders, old seed becomes molded and poses a health hazard to the immediate bird population. Spreading fungus and airborne diseases is never good. The added platform space from a seed catcher virtually creates an additional feeder for birds who may not perch at the main feeder.

Available for 4×4 posts, standard 1-inch diameter poles, and adjustable hanging seed catchers, there’s just no more excuses for accumulated ground mess.adjustable seed catcher fits any hanging feeder

The New Generation of seed catchers

recyled seed catcher for 4x4 postAs unsightly as it is, ground waste from bird feeders may also be hazardous to birds’ general health. As seed accumulates on the ground, mold and fungus begin to breed, and bacteria forms which can easily spread among local bird populations. Of course weather will affect this process, depending on heat, humidity and rainfall.

Not only protecting the ground below from waste, and sprouting weeds, the newer seed catchers serve a multi-purpose function. Large, platform type areas catch fallen seed that is appealing to other birds who may not use the actual feeder. There is an additional feeding space at play here, allowing you to entice and attract more feathered friends.

This large recycled plastic seed tray, or seed catcher, is fashioned for larger bird feeders that are mounted on 4×4 posts. Its innovative design really fills a need for these types of feeders. Recycled plastic means it will never crack, split, or warp, so it’s virtually indestructible. Screens lift out for easy cleaning too.

seed hoop is adjustable for any bird feederThe new Seed Hoops are another brilliant idea in seed catchers. They’re adjustable to fit any hanging bird feeder, including tube feeders. Available in a 16 and a super 30-inch diameter, they’ll eliminate ground waste from any feeder, while creating additional feeding space for new visitors.
